Taskmaster Wiki

Work out who you are shaking hands with was a task featured on Series 17 of Taskmaster, as the second task in Apropos of Apoppo. The task was won by Nick Mohammed.

Setup[]

Location Taskmaster House
Equipment Fence, gloves, items, blackboard, scissors, alarm
Timing 20 minutes
Measurement Most correct guesses

Summary[]

The task was presented in the hand of a mannequin connected to a large wooden fence. Along the fence, many gloves filled with various objects were present. The contestants had to handshake the gloves to guess who/what they were shaking hands with. The objects all abbreviate to ALEX HORNE, which scores higher than without. The gloves also spelt out the initials A H. Each glove was filled with:

  1. Acorns
  2. Lipsticks
  3. Raw Egg
  4. Xylophone parts
  5. Actual Hand
  6. Pickled Onions
  7. Non-alcoholic Rum
  8. Fake Finger Nails
  9. Boiled Egg

Performance[]

The correct guesses are underlined.

Joanne McNally: Joanne rubbed the gloves, and felt them with her cheeks, claiming it's an Irish thing. She guessed Acorns, Lipstick, Eggs, Xylophone, Herpes, Olives, Ribena, Nails, and Eggs.

She guessed 6/9 hands correctly and got Alex's name, initially thinking it was Alex Horns. Whilst she got the same correct answers as John, she received 4 points for correctly identifying Alex's name.

John Robins: John started shaking them normally, but got more vigorous and ended up startled by many of the hands. He guessed Acorns, ?Lipsticks, ???, Xylophone, Hand, Pickled Onions, Relapsed (because He didn't drink rum), Nails, and Eggs.

He guessed 7/9 hands correctly but thought he was shaking hands with the King. Whilst he got the same correct answers as Joanne, as he failed to identify Alex was the final answer, he received 3 points.

Nick Mohammed: Nick shook all the gloves, and plastered one of the cut fingers back, so he was allowed to cut another, which Greg allowed. He guessed Acorn, Lipstick, Egg (scrambled), X-Box (immediate guess), Human Hand, Onions, Rum, Nails, and Egg (boiled).

He guessed 8/9 hands correctly, and figured out that the objects spelt out Alex's name. He received 5 points.

Sophie Willan: Sophie shook hands with the gloves. She guessed Acorns, Pens, Oatmeal, Rulers, Real Person, Pickled Onions?, Water, Nails, and Egg.

She guessed 5/9 hands correctly, before assuming the contents would all abbreviate to someone's name; which she said was "Apoppo". She received 2 points.

Steve Pemberton: Steve cut many fingers from the gloves, and created character names based on what he found in the gloves. He guessed Aileen A. Corns, Dommy Noes, Tom A'tosoup, Zylofone (piece), Greg Davies TM, Lye Cheese (Obe), W. A. Ter, Straw, and Sof't Boi'ledeggs.

He guessed 3/9 hands correctly, but was unable to figure out the abbreviation, receiving 1 point.
