Solve the riddle was a team task featured on Series 12 of Taskmaster, as the fourth task in The customised inhaler. The task was won by Alan Davies and Victoria Coren Mitchell.

Summary[]
The task was presented on the table in the contestants' respective rooms (Alan and Desiree in the living room; Victoria and Guz in the Lab; Morgana in the caravan). The contestants had to solve the riddle which was written in code on a piece of paper in the lab. Also in the lab was half of a jigsaw, with the code written on the back, and an envelope saying it could only be opened when someone looks like Charlie Chaplin. Once the person in the living room looked like Charlie Chaplin, the envelope could be opened and contained a map of the living room, revealing there was something on the side of the room in a secret compartment (which was in the bookshelves). In the secret compartment, the rest of the jigsaw as found. Once the jigsaws were completed, the back of the jigsaw revealed the code, which could be used to decipher the riddle: What is greater than the Taskmaster, more evil than the devil, Alex has it, the Taskmaster needs it, and if you eat it, you'll die? with the answer being nothing.
Performance[]
Alan Davies & Victoria Coren Mitchell: Alan immediately found the hat and moustache and dressed himself as Charlie Chaplin whilst Victoria started the puzzle. After guiding Alan to his jigsaw pieces, Victoria began deciphering the coded riddle, including the letters she didn't have as they were on the back of Alan's jigsaw. Once Alan completed his jigsaw, the two deciphered the code and Victoria swiftly solved it. They solved the riddle in 33 minutes and 33 seconds, receiving 5 points each.
Desiree Burch, Guz Khan & Morgana Robinson: Morgana immediately got Desiree to say the word "submarine". After dressing as Charlie Chaplin, Desiree became increasingly frustrated by Guz who kept saying he had a revelation, although he only found the riddle after 41 minutes. Morgana ended up suggesting Desiree and Guz stand in their doorways so they could both see the map and Desiree could find her jigsaw as Guz didn't think he could describe it. After an hour has passed and Guz struggled to tell Desiree and Morgana what the letters on the back of his jigsaw meant, Desiree requested Alex retrieve Guz's jigsaw so Desiree had a complete puzzle. Whilst she deciphered the riddle, Guz found a guitar and started singing about how much he hated the task. Desiree eventually deciphered the riddle and solved it herself. They solved the riddle in 1 hour and 33 minutes, receiving 2 points each. Morgana received a bonus 2 points for getting Desiree to say the word "submarine".

A version of this task was featured on Season 7 of Bäst i Test. Whilst the steps to getting the riddle are the same, the riddle was instead "Babben and David are 106 years old. Babben is 100 years older than David. How old is David?", with the answer being 3.
