Location Taskmaster House
Equipment Block of ice
Timing 1 hour
Measurement Fastest wins

Summary[]

The task is presented on top of a large block of ice. The contestants must then find a way to make the block of ice disappear as quickly as possible and within a maximum time of one hour. The task begins outside the Taskmaster House, but contestants can take it inside, or away from the property.

Performance[]

Frank Skinner: Frank put it in the bath and poured hot water on the ice block. He then used a hammer to smash the block of ice, putting a bit in the oven, and another bit in the sink. He melted the ice after 27 minutes 28 seconds, receiving 4 points.

Josh Widdicombe: Josh put it in the bath and poured hot water on the ice block, using the shower, the kettle, and the stovetop, by heating water in a wok. He melted the ice after 17 minutes 4 seconds, receiving 5 points.

Roisin Conaty: Roisin positioned the ice block in a wheelbarrow, under the kitchen window and used an extended shower hose to melt the ice, using Alex to help her by holding the hose and asking him to take a bit of hair out of her mouth. She then boiled kettles of water and hit the ice block with a stick. She also began making an ice sculpture that she named "Hope", and wondered whether it was like this on the set of Frozen. She melted the ice after 30 minutes 20 seconds, receiving 3 points.

Romesh Ranganathan: Romesh continuously smashed the block of ice with a spade, whilst also boiling 2 saucepans of ice on the stovetop. He also spread salt on the broken pieces of ice. The block of ice mostly disappeared after 47 minutes 30 seconds receiving 2 points.

Tim Key: Tim threw it in the river and it could not be seen by Alex after 13 minutes 40 seconds, even though Tim argued that the ice block disappeared as soon as it was in the river. However, Greg only gave him 1 point, as he believed that the ice only disappeared after at least an hour.

Trivia[]

Behind the scenes[]

  • After Josh mocked her for getting Alex to remove a hair from her mouth, Roisin told him "Down an octave", the episode's title.

Controversies[]

  • The scoreboard update after the task erroneously shows that Tim has 7 points and Frank has 6 points, with Tim having been awarded 2 points from the task and Frank awarded 3 points, although Tim should have been awarded 1 point and Frank 4 points. However, the scoreboard is fixed after the next task and as a result does not affect the episode or series score.
