Summary[]
The task is presented in the lab alongside Fred the Swede. The contestants had to get information from Fred, although Fred could only speak and write in Swedish. Fred was allowed to mime some of the answers if the contestant asked. The 6 pieces of information the contestants included:
- Date of birth - 27th August 1981
- Fred's Father's job - Decorator
- Fred's greatest fear - Fear of failure
- Describe the contestant - "You have curly hair, kind eyes, small beard. I would say that you are shorter than average" (John Richardson), "You've got short hair" (Doc Brown)
- Fred's favourite food - Hamburgers, boiled potatoes, cream sauce, fried onions & lingonberries
Performance[]
Doc Brown: Doc got Fred to mime his father's job, incorrectly guessing that he was a croupier before he correctly answered, realising that he might need to change his lifestyle. Fred described him as having short hair. Doc thought it was an insult, but was relieved to hear that he didn't describe him as brown. Greg also noted that Doc looked incredibly flirtatious when he said "friendly". Doc also claimed to get his number, which Alex corrected him, saying that he got his number wrong. Doc took roughly ten minutes to get 3 pieces of information correct. He received 2 points.
Joe Wilkinson: Joe took an immediate dislike of Fred the Swede and struggled to think of a plan of getting any information, simply asking the questions and getting a response in Swedish. He guessed 2nd of August 1988 as his date of birth and guessed "arse-licking" as his greatest fear. He also tried to bribe Fred into speaking English, which he denied. Joe gave up after 16 minutes 20 seconds and got all six pieces of information wrong. He received 1 point.
Jon Richardson: Jon first guessed Fred's father's job as an animal, before eventually getting Fred to mime his Father's job, correctly guessing it afterwards. Fred described Jon as having: curly hair, kind eyes, small beard and being shorter than average. Jon took 15 minutes 26 seconds to get 5 pieces of information correct, only missing his greatest fear. He received 3 points.
Katherine Ryan: Katherine called her friend, Sofie Hagen, who spoke Danish to translate some of the Swedish for her. However, she took a long time to understand that lingonberries were an actual type of berry and not a Swedish translation, even after using a Swedish-English online dictionary. She took 15 minutes 41 seconds to get all 6 pieces of information. She received 5 points.
Richard Osman: Richard got Fred to mime the answers to his date of birth, by showing fingers, and his father's job, by miming wall painting. He also tried to get Fred to spell out his biggest fear, but had to specify that he wanted the answer spelt out in English. He ended up taking 17 minutes to get all 6 pieces of information correct. He received 4 points.
