Taskmaster Wiki

Display the shoe Alex is thinking of was a task featured on Series 13 of Taskmaster, as the second task in Shoe Who. The task was won by Chris Ramsey.

Setup[]

Location Chiltern Open Air Museum
Equipment Several shoes
Measurement Fewest questions asked

Summary[]

The task was presented on the floor of a church containing various shoes. The contestants had to display the shoe Alex was thinking of (a reddish open-toed left shoe), but could only ask yes or no questions. If they thought the shoe was not the correct one, the contestant had to throw it out the window. They had to say a phrase after each question. The phrases were:

  • Ardal - say "I have to find the shoe"
  • Bridget - say "OK, just one more thing"
  • Chris - shout "No way"
  • Judi - laugh with disbelief
  • Sophie - get increasingly exasperated

Performance[]

Ardal O'Hanlon: Ardal confused himself with his questions, ending up with all the shoes out the window, but fortunately managed to immediately find the correct shoe on the top of the pile. He displayed the shoe after 40 questions including 'if Greg can be happy' and ask if he can get out of the window he was sitting to find the shoe, receiving 2 points.

Bridget Christie: Bridget was flustered and asked random questions, eventually asking if each pair of shoes were the correct shoe, frustrating Alex. She displayed the shoe and ask Alex to turn around to make other shoes leftover disappear after 161 questions (significantly more questions than there were shoes, and more questions than the other four contestants asked combined), receiving 1 point.

Chris Ramsey: Chris managed to divide the shoes after a few questions by their location in the room, at one point throwing the correct shoes out of the room, before realising his mistake. He displayed the shoe after 13 questions (Alex noted that his system can be cracked with only 7 questions), receiving 5 points.

Judi Love: Judi started identifying different shoes, getting Alex to take down the shoes for her as she watched. She displayed the shoes on Alex's clipboard after 24 questions, including those she repeated to Alex, receiving 4 points.

Sophie Duker: Sophie grew increasingly frustrated throughout the task, at one point throwing out Alex's shoes in frustration. She displayed the shoe on the hook holding the other discarded shoes after 30 questions, receiving 3 points.

Trivia[]

Behind the Scenes[]

  • After reading the task, Judi compared it to the game Guess Who?, claiming this version would be called "Shoe Who?", the episode's name, before switching to the more predictable "Guess Shoe?"
  • Given that Alex stated that the task could be solved with just seven questions by splitting the possible shoes in half after each question, this puts the total number of shoes at between 65 and 128 inclusive.
