Catch the rat in the most ingenious way was a task featured on Series 11 of Taskmaster, as the third task in It's not your fault. The task was won by Lee Mack.
Setup[]
Location | Taskmaster House |
---|---|
Equipment | Remote controlled rat |
Timing | 30 minutes |
Measurement | Most ingenious catching |
Summary[]
The task was delivered by a remote controlled rat. The contestants had to catch the rat in the most ingenious way. The rat would run over the red green 30 minutes after reading the task.
Performance[]
Charlotte Ritchie: Charlotte drew a sign to lure the rat onto the red green ("this way to cheese. All rats welcome"). She then hid underneath another red rug and leaned the sign (acting as a ramp) on her feet. After the rat appeared and ran over the rug Charlotte was hiding under, Charlotte grabbed the rat with her arms. Since the task required contestants to be at least three metres away when catching the rat, she was disqualified, and thus received 0 points.
Jamali Maddix : Jamali tried setting up a trap consisting of multiple poles and a net, but he ran out of time. In the end he leaned a spoon net on top of some planks, and tried tipping the planks with a golf ball he shot through a drainpipe. When that didn't work, he tipped over the planks with the ball in his hand and put the spoon net on top of the rat. He asked to be edited out of the footage, and jokingly defended himself in the studio by saying "you can't actually see my hand doing it" . He received 1 point.
Lee Mack: Lee used a bathtub to act as the rat trap. He leaned it flipped over against a sled and used a tennis ball as bait. After the rat appeared he took the tennis ball and placed it on a ramp held by Alex. After the ball fell off the ramp Lee used a cricket bat to hit both the ball and a long stick. The stick then pushed over the sledge, and this made the bathtub fall onto the rat. Lee received 5 points.
Mike Wozniak: Mike put a net on the ground and attached multiple strings to it, which lead to a ladder acting as a pully point. He used a piece of cheese as bait. He then cut of some branches from a nearby bush and hid himself behind a few bins. When the rat crossed the net, Mike pulled the strings, catching the rat in the net. He received 3 points.
Sarah Kendall: Sarah also used the bathtub as a trap. She leaned it against a pole, which was held by a few bricks. She also placed a wooden spoon with peanut butter under the tub as bait. Sarah then attached a measure tape to the pole, and pulled on it once the rat was underneath the tub. The tub fell, catching the rat. She received 3 points.

Trivia[]
Controversies[]
- Both Mike and Sarah are said to receive 3 points for this task. No scoreboard is shown after this task. During the next task, Mike is awarded 3, and Sarah is awarded 4 points. However, the scoreboard displayed after the next task shows Mike moving up by 7, Sarah moving up by 6 points. Since no scoreboard is shown after this task, it is unclear, where the error occurred.
- Jamali was also less than 3 metres away when he caught the rat, yet was not disqualified.
